Check out the "Bark About Books" drop down tab at the top of this page to learn more about how we shared our favorite books by giving book talks using Flipgrid.com. Below you see just a few examples of book talks given by some of our students and teachers.
How did we get students and teachers involved? We used Screencastify to create tutorials on how to give a book talk using Flipgrid and shared them on the Bulldog Broadcast. We also shared student and teacher book talks on the broadcast often to keep kids reading! We even hosted a contest to encourage more participation. One lucky student will win a popsicle party for their class! Click on the buttons below to watch the tutorials and broadcast clips.
The Bark About Books "Starbooks" Book Swap was a complete success! We want students talking about and reading books, so we thought we would help students "readcycle" their gently used books. Why keep a book sitting on a shelf collecting dust when you can share it with a friend instead?
Just trade your book for a book swap ticket we made using Canva! Then use your ticket to swap for a book that's new to you!

Family Literacy Night was a perfect chance for us to share our project with the community. We taught students and parents how to use our Bulldog Learning Lab Google Site to watch and give book talks.
We also shared with them how to use our website to access learning games. We've curated online games students can use to improve their reading skills. Check out the Bulldog Arcade drop-down tab at the top of this page to explore the games we made available for our students.
The night was a total success! Learn more about our station at Family Literacy Night by clicking the button below.
STLP collaborated with 3rd grade on their Problem Based Learning Project which was also planned around solving the problem of how Covid has caused a dip in reading scores. They designed t-shirts and then sold them to raise money to buy our school new books!
Our STLP team used Google Forms to survey the 3rd grade students about their favorite types of books to read. We met with a third grade "tech team" to teach them how to organize and graph the data collected from the survey in Google Sheets. We then helped them create a presentation using Google Slides to share the information with the rest of 3rd grade so they could spend their fundraiser money on books that students really wanted to read.
Thanks 3rd Grade for reaching out to us! We are so happy to support you in your efforts to get kids reading and talking about books more!!
We also collaborated with our school librarian throughout this project. She helped us advertise our entire project on the Bulldog Broadcast. She even used library time to teach students about how to watch and give book talks. She gave students time to watch book talks before choosing their books and she gave students time to give books talks after reading their books. Thanks Mr. Barger!!

Book Swap Impact:
Click through the images on the left to see the impact our book swap had on students. You can see that students read more books and that most students would love to have another one!
Overall Project Impact:
You can see in the image on the left that students' reading scores increased this year! We partnered closely with 3rd grade students and you can see that they made over a 22 point increase in scores!
Based on these results, we think our project made a positive impact!
Our project doesn't stop here and will only get better as time goes on. Our STLP team is dedicated to keeping students at LJ excited about reading!
