Community Collaborators for Innovative Learning Team

What is the Community Collaborators for Innovative Learning Team?

Who?

Bullitt County Public Schools is excited to participate in the Local Laboratory of Learning (L3) process to foster innovation in our schools and district specific to the local needs of our students and community. This work started at the state level with Dr. Jason Glass, KY Commissioner of Education, in Spring 2021 with a listening tour around the state in regards to strengths and opportunities for improvement in all Kentucky Schools. You can read more about the beginning of this work by reading the United We Learn webpage. In addition, you can review the report called "A New Vision for Education in Kentucky" here.

The purpose of Bullitt County Public Schools partnering with community stakeholders is to collaborate to help establish new ideas around assessment and accountability for our students as they demonstrate learning. Ultimately, this team in BCPS will co-create a vision to inform innovative assessment practices and advance policy recommendations, which will help shape the future of education in Kentucky for future generations.

What?

The state coalition began this work after the Commissioner’s listening tours. You can read the report called "Hearing Kentucky’s Voices on the Future of Education" here that included the perspectives of parents, students, educators, community leaders, business partners, etc. regarding assessment of student learning across our state.

The Bullitt County Public School (BCPS) Community Collaborators for Innovative Learning will be a coalition (or team) of parents, students, educators, community partners, business partners, and alumni to co-create a plan for improved assessment ideas connected to our BCPS Profile of a Graduate here in BCPS.

If you are interested in participating, please check out the open application below.

When?

The BCPS Community Collaborators for Innovative Learning Coalition will kick-off around the middle of April 2022 and will continue through the 2022-2023 school year.

The coalition will meet monthly in small and/or large groups to learn, brainstorm, and develop an assessment prototype specific to the needs of our district and community to ensure our students are life-ready.

Why?

Previously, the Bullitt County community helped to co-create our BCPS Profile of a Graduate, voicing that these six learning competencies are essential for our students to develop throughout their school journey to take with them into college and/or career.

The future of education will be different - just as the landscape of our workforce and global economy are changing. As we prepare students for life outside of their K-12 school experience, we must take an innovative approach to both learning and assessment.

The BCPS Community Collaborators for Innovative Learning Coalition will help bring our Profile of Graduate to life related to learning experiences and assessment.
