5TH GRADE, FES
"When I began planning our Revolutionary War unit, I knew I wanted to have several interactive components to help students answer the compelling question; what does it take to gain independence? I wanted students to be able to research someone involved in the Revolutionary War, write an informational piece about them, transform the piece into a narrative, use technology to share their learning, and present it to other students in a living wax museum. Watching students become confident researchers, producers, and authors was an incredible experience! Students from every grade level came through our wax museum and watched in awe as our Fifth graders shared their learning. This experience brought a historical event to life and left our students seeking out more opportunities to research and create visual representations of their learning!" -- Ms. Forgey
"My favorite part of the project was just seeing the high level of student engagement whether it was when they were researching, creating their video trailer on Adobe Spark, or presenting at the wax museum. The whole process provided students a clear understanding and perspective of their historical figure and brought them back to life!" -- Mr. Paige, collaborating DLC

When I began planning our Revolutionary War unit, I knew I wanted to have several interactive components to help students answer the compelling question; what does it take to gain independence? I wanted students to be able to research someone involved in the Revolutionary War, write an informational piece about them, transform the piece into a narrative, use technology to share their learning, and present it to other students in a living wax museum. I met with Andrew Paige as I was beginning to plan this unit and he instantly suggested two amazing ideas to incorporate creativity and technology-a movie trailer with Adobe Spark and using Storyjumper to publish their writing. He joined our class to teach us how to use these tools, which was fantastic! Watching students become confident researchers, producers, and authors was an incredible experience! Students from every grade level came through our wax museum and watched in awe as our Fifth graders shared their learning. This experience brought a historical event to life and left our students seeking out more opportunities to research and create visual representations of their learning! -- Ms. Forgey, Teacher
