Students will identify their individual skills and abilities through a self assessment. Through critical analysis, each student will then identify three career or job choices that correspond with their identified strengths.

Using the sample resumes for this activity, students will evaluate resumes based on the job description, identify key components of an effective resume, and compare and contrast resume samples.

This 30 page workbook takes students through a step by step process for creating a resume. It provides prompts for students to identify their skills, writing one liners, and listing relevant abilities.
Students will play two different roles, resume writers and resume reviews. Lesson plan is nonprofit focused but can be revised.

Encourage students to bring resumes to their next career fair. Tell them to treat it like a business card that may lead to a real interview.
Contact local businesses to see if they are willing to hire high school students. Have students submit their resumes on indeed or similar portals to apply.
