ABOUT CSCI 358: HUMAN-COMPUTER INTERACTION: For computer scientists, the word design is too often used just in the context of code and architecture. Engineers have a bad habit of building complex products that are functional, but never used. When they are used, neglecting the human dimension can lead to consequences that range from clumsiness to discrimination. In this course, we will study both people and technology to understand the behavior that computers encourage or constrain. Through a variety of modalities (mobile, desktop, 3D user interfaces, & virtual reality), we will deliberately practice processes that result in useful, usable, and maybe even inspirational computer interfaces.
About the prof: You can call me either Prof. Peck or Dr. Peck. My research and expertise is in Human-Computer Interaction and Information Visualization, so I love teaching this course. My office is in Dana 334, but you can find out more about me at my website, check out this link if you'd like to meet.
