First-years, sophomores, and juniors take 2 hours of Military Science class, learning the ins and outs of the Army profession, leadership, and tactics. Seniors learn more about the Army and their job as a Second Lieutenant and take part in an hour-long training meeting to review and plan upcoming training for the program.
Physical Training (PT) takes place every Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday from 0600-0700. Cadets take part in various peer-led workouts that prepare them for the Army Combat Fitness Test, given two times a year. All contracted cadets must pass this test to remain in the program. It is paramount that cadets remain physically fit both now and when they are officers.
The Bison Battalion holds three Leadership Labs a semester to train cadets on basic soldier skills, tactics, and leadership. Here, cadets can hone their leadership abilities in preparation for Advanced Camp after their junior year, their senior year, and for when they are officers. These are usually held for about 4 hours on a weekend at Camp Cowan in Lewisburg, PA.
Each week for about an hour, cadets take part in peer-led classroom style training to prepare for Leadership Labs and Field Training Exercises. MSIIIs (juniors) lead sessions on tactics, soldier skills, and general Army knowledge to prepare the MSIs and MSIIs for future training.
As a culmination of a semester's training, cadets take part in a 3-day Field Training Exercise. These training events take place at Fort Indiantown Gap in Lebanon County, PA. Here, cadets will take part in Land Navigation training, tactics and leadership training, Obstacle Course training, and more. The MSIVs plan the entire event, gaining valuable planning experience before commissioning as officers.
