Chess
(Grades 2 to 6)
Chess helps children get better grades in school! Chess gives children: concentration, strategy skills, self-esteem, & confidence! Chess is educational: studies have shown that chess increases reading and math levels! Each week you will receive a Chess Lesson followed by coached playing time. You will receive instruction by Top Chess Coaches. “Expand a child’s mind! Experience the excitement of the fastest growing sport in the U.S.!” Younger students may be able to participate by permission only. This class requires a minimum of 6 kids.

Typing Wizard
(Grades 2 to 6)
Learn all about the keyboard! Students will explore which fingers are used to type each letter. They’ll be able to see the number of words they can type per minute and be able to keep track of their improvement over time. There will be fun videos to help guide their practice sessions as well as fun typing games to enhance their learning experience. You won’t believe how easy it is to become a Typing Wizard!
Mindful Movers

After a busy day at school, come and quiet your mind and find your inner calm in this relaxing and tranquil class. We will learn how you can use various techniques, such as breathing, stretching and simple age appropriate yoga poses to focus on the present and relieve stress.

Broadway Triple Threat

Does your child dream of the spotlight? Our high-energy Broadway Triple Threat Workshop uses a popular, family-friendly musical number (like Annie or The Lion King) to teach the core skills of musical theatre. Students will dive into acting, exploring character and emotion through fun drama games that boost confidence and projection. We then focus on singing, learning the song with proper vocal technique and clear diction. Finally, they master a short, snappy dance/movement sequence, unifying all three elements. This workshop is a fantastic way for children to develop stage presence, musicality, and teamwork while preparing for any performance!
Little Medical School
(Grades K to 6)
Students will step into the shoes of medical professionals, learning essential doctor duties through fun role-play and interactive activities. They'll explore vital organs such as the heart, lungs, and digestive system. Utilizing actual medical tools like stethoscopes, reflex hammers, and blood pressure cuffs, participants will gain hands-on experience with practices such as scrubbing in for surgery, suturing wounds, and mastering surgical knots, just like seasoned surgeons.

Students will use dynamic online design tools to bring their ideas to life, experimenting with fabrics, colors, and styles in a digital format that mirrors the professional fashion world. Throughout the program, students will explore the fundamentals of fashion design, from sketching and digital pattern-making to understanding fabric textures and seasonal trends. Working hands-on with laptops, they’ll develop their unique style and create virtual mock-ups of clothing, accessories, and costume pieces, all with guidance from experienced instructors. Have you ever dreamed of creating a video game? In this course, we’ll dive into game development. Students will learn the fundamentals of game design, starting with HTML programming. During the course, we will use AI technology for storytelling and image creation, infusing unlimited options into game creation. We’ll also work on enhancing writing skills by coding trivia challenges and immersive choose-your-own-adventure games. Learners will have the opportunity to collaborate on a group game. Have you ever wanted to start your own business or website? In this class for budding entrepreneurs, that’s exactly what you’ll do! You’ll work with a classmate to come up with a simple company idea, taking it as far as it will go before the class ends. You’ll create a business plan, enlist friends and family, and set up everything you need to be a junior entrepreneur: a first email address, a basic app or website, and a presentation. Ultimately, you’ll share your idea with friends and family, work hard to get a first customer, and present all your progress to the whole class. You’ll have a ton of fun and accomplish more than you ever have before!

Have you ever wanted to make your own websites and apps? In this hands-on coding and tech club, you’ll learn the skills of a coder and the mindset of an entrepreneur through building apps - your own app and also an app for local nonprofits. You’ll build apps and games weekly in the course and work on real web apps. Previous students have been covered in multiple local news outlets for apps they've built for homeless shelters, veterinarians, and local climate nonprofits!

Our multi-sport program introduces children to the fundamentals of 10 sports in a fun non-competitive environment, helping them to develop physical literacy, learn about nutrition and muscle identification, and master 6 key motor skills. Our Amazing Athletes curriculum is custom designed to provide both variety and repetition through interactive sports lessons that focus on skill development and personal progression using age-appropriate sports equipment.

This course is designed for young enchanter enthusiasts to dive into the world of Harry Potter! In this engaging program, students will craft magical wands, brew "potions" using safe ingredients, and participate in house-themed challenges that bring favorite wizard stories to life. Young wizards will explore their creativity by designing magical creatures, creating enchanted maps, and discovering the imaginative elements that make these beloved stories so captivating. You'll participate in wizard-themed games, learn about the literary elements behind magical storytelling, and develop friendship bonds through collaborative magical challenges! This course will empower scholars with a deeper appreciation for fantasy literature while encouraging teamwork, creative thinking, and the magic that happens when imagination is given room to flourish.
Martial Arts

Tiger Schulmann is dedicated to helping kids of all ages build fitness, friendship, and confidence through karate and martial arts. Here, students learn more than punch-kick techniques. They build character — discipline, focus, respect, and mental toughness — through martial arts achievements tailored to their age and ability. These valuable life skills help students take on new challenges with confidence— on and off the mat. It’s a complete, 360° approach to mind-body fitness we call Finding Your Tiger. Do you love animals? Have you wished you could be one on one with a snake, chinchilla, and more? Well then, this class is for you! Meet weekly with a live animal! Learn about how each group of animals is unique and adapted to survive as you interact with various animal residents of SMLI. What's the difference between a turtle and a tortoise? Let Rudy & Crush show you! Each week will feature an informational book on the animal of that week, followed by live animal presentation and related craft. Students will report to the Dining Room at 3:00 P.M. and sign in with the Study Hall teacher.
Please Note:
Students who attend Study Hall are encouraged to do their homework.
Chromebooks may not be used unless needed for homework.
Additional games, books, and activities are available for students who do not have homework.

Little Medical School is a fun, hands-on STEM enrichment experience that brings real medical tools and health education to children. Students explore healthcare careers, learn about the human body, and build essential life skills through engaging activities.
Our program offers students the chance to:
● Explore the World of Healthcare: Engage with topics like anatomy, first aid, and medical tools in an age-appropriate and interactive way.
● Build Confidence and Lifelong Skills: Participate in hands-on activities, such as using stethoscopes, applying bandages, and understanding healthy habits.
● Discover STEM Careers: Learn about careers in healthcare and how they can make a difference in their community.

Calling all sixth through eighth grade girls who want to be a Girl Scout Cadette! Buckley Country Day School's Girl Scout Troop 1052 has a limited number of openings for new members. The Girl Scouts meet every other Friday at Buckley with Buckley mom and troop leader, Ms. Shalini Mimani (mom of Leela Kissane, class of 2026 and Priya Kissane, class of 2028), to work on a variety of projects emphasizing leadership and service to the Buckley community. We meet at 4 pm to accommodate our 7th and 8th graders, but 6th graders are welcome to go to study hall (for free) until we meet. Outside of school, the Girl Scouts go on camping trips, participate in service projects, learn new skills, and build bonds with one another. Costs include dues to the Girl Scouts of Nassau County ($40), the cost for the uniform (vest, pins, and patches) (~$50), and occasional costs for individual activities. We will accept new members on a first come-first serve basis.
