The goal of this project is to co-develop and implement a state-of-the-art Air Pollution Monitoring and Action Plan with Boston Public Schools and City of Boston.Â
The team was awarded a 2025 Community Clean Air Grant to support the development, implementation, and evaluation of an Air Pollution Monitoring and Action Plan in Boston Public Schools (BPS). The project aims to reduce harmful air pollution exposures for BPS students, teachers, and staff. Leveraging a network of over 4,000 real-time indoor and outdoor air quality sensors installed across BPS classrooms and rooftops, we are building algorithms to detect hyperlocal high-pollution events, co-creating actionable response strategies with school staff, and evaluating the impact of interventions on indoor air quality and air purifier use. Funded by the City of Boston Air Pollution Control Commission.
