Q. Liu is an assistant professor at Boston University Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences. He completed health service psychology internship at University of Illinois Chicago Department of Psychiatry. He earned Ph.D. in Psychology with specializations in Quantitative Methods and Clinical Science from Vanderbilt University. He also holds a M.S. degree in Applied and Computational Mathematics and Statistics from University of Notre Dame. His Bachelor degrees in psychology, mathematics, and philosophy were from University of Washington.
Lauren Trichtinger is an Assistant Professor of Statistics and Data Science at Simmons University. Lauren earned her Ph.D. in Quantitative Psychology from the University of Notre Dame. Her research interests include developing statistical methods for analyzing big data, particularly intensive longitudinal data.
Simon Li is a PhD student in the Clinical Psychology program at Boston University. He completed his B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Economics from Denison University, followed by an M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University. Simon's research focuses on the emotional-cognitive processes underlying self-injurious thoughts and behaviors.
He is particularly interested in using real-time monitoring and computational models to understand why individuals engage in self-injurious thoughts and behaviors and to elucidate the underlying mechanisms, such as ambivalence and emotional regulation.
Kiyan Irani (he/him) is a first-year doctoral student in the Quantitative Psychology Lab at Boston University. He holds an Honors BS in finance with distinction as a Business Scholar from the University of Utah and an MA in clinical psychology from Columbia University.
Before transitioning to psychological research, Kiyan worked for five years as a Senior Research Analyst at Goldman Sachs, a global investment bank. His research focuses on utilizing statistical and computational modeling to assess health disparities among sexual and gender minorities.
Outside the lab, Kiyan enjoys various outdoor activities, including hiking, rock and ice climbing, skiing, and soccer. He also enjoys reading, listening to true-crime podcasts, and taking spontaneous weekend camping trips.
Mingcong (she/her) has a BS and an MA in Psychology. Her research examines how stress exposure interacts with emotion regulation in depression and anxiety, using mechanistically informed, person-specific approaches to strengthen assessment and optimize intervention. Outside of work, she enjoys workouts and sports, photography, and learning new and fun things.
Hello! My name is Philipp and I’m a junior at BU majoring in psychology. My research interests include the development of mental disorders in marginalized groups and how intersectionality plays a role. I am also interested in the mechanisms and risk factors of nonsuicidal self-injury.
I am still developing my interests in different psychology fields, but I currently plan to pursue clinical psychology. Outside work and school, I enjoy exercising, playing piano, and collecting bucket hats. I love bucket hats :)

Linghe (Linda) Hu is double majoring in Psychology and Neuroscience at Boston University. She is interested in clinical psychology and cognitive neuroscience, with a particular focus on mood and affective disorders, including depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder. Her interests center on understanding how these conditions relate to cognitive processes and brain function, and how quantitative approaches can help bridge clinical phenomena with underlying mechanisms. Looking forward, she aims to pursue graduate training that integrates research and clinical practice, contributing to a deeper understanding and improved treatment of mental health conditions. Beyond her academic pursuits, Linghe enjoys playing musical instruments, engaging in film photography, and dancing.
Hi! My research interests fall within personality and behavior and how the development and condition of our brain structures and chemicals influence those factors. I grew up locally about 10 miles from Boston and plan to pursue a career as a therapist. One passion of mine is studying Spanish with the goal of becoming fluent and providing services for primarily Spanish speaking clients. I'm unsure where life will take me, but I hope one day to move abroad.
I am a psychology and public health student at Boston University from Boulder, Colorado, with research interests in adolescent addiction science and developmental psychopathology. I am especially interested in understanding how emotional and behavioral pathways, parenting, and social contexts shape substance use risk during adolescence. I love conducting research at BU and am excited to continue building my skills in clinical and developmental research. After graduation, I plan to pursue a PhD in adolescent clinical psychology.
