Google Sites

This site will teach you the basics of creating your own Google Site. It is for people who are completely new to Google Sites.

As you work your way through this site, stop at your own pace to follow the directions. After you finish setting up your site on this homepage, you can navigate to a new skill using the link at the bottom of the page, or you can use the side navigation to move to the next step that you need.

Open a new tab so that you are ready to start building your site. Let's get started.

Setting up your Google Site

Setting up your Google Site is easy. Watch the video and/or follow the instructions to the right to set up a Google Site, title it, and discover some of the basic functions.

  • Go to or create a Google Folder in your Google Drive where you would like to create your Google Site. For example, if you are creating a site for a certain class, make or go to that folder.
  • Click on the "Plus New Button" and go to "More." From that pull down menu, click on Google Site.
  • Give your site a title.
  • Give your page a title.
  • Practice using some of the tools in the top right:
    • "Undo last action" arrow
    • "Redo last action" arrow,
    • "Preview" button - allows you to preview your site
    • "Copy Published Site Link" button -allows you to share the link to your published site
    • "Share with others" button - allows you to share the working draft of the site with other collaborators or the published site with others.
    • "Publish" button - Be sure to publish the site every time you finish updating it so that your changes appear on your published site.
