Thank you for your interest in the 2022 fall play, THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME! The first round of auditions will be held through video recordings, which are due no later than FRIDAY, AUGUST 19. Live call-backs will be held on WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 24, or THURSDAY, AUGUST 25, at 3:30 in the Performing Arts Center.
THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME is a Tony-winning play by Simon Stephens, based on the best-selling novel by Mark Haddon. 15-year-old Christopher has an extraordinary brain: He is exceptional at mathematics but ill-equipped to interpret everyday life. He has never ventured alone beyond the end of his road, he detests being touched, and he distrusts strangers. Now it is seven minutes after midnight, and Christopher stands beside his neighbor's dead dog, Wellington, who has been speared with a pitchfork. Finding himself under suspicion, Christopher is determined to solve the mystery of who murdered Wellington, and he carefully records each fact of the crime. But his detective work, forbidden by his father, takes him on a thrilling journey that upturns his world. The show calls for a flexible ensemble of 15 actors.
The cast will have its first meeting on Saturday, August 27, at 10 a.m. in the Performing Arts Center. Rehearsals will take place Monday through Friday beginning the week of August 29 and running through the week of October 10. (Not all cast members will be required to attend all rehearsals. Cast members will receive a detailed calendar at the first rehearsal.) The show will be performed for junior high students on October 13 and 14. The production will be performed for the public on Thursday through Saturday, October 13 through 15, at 7:00 p.m. in the Belleville West Performing Arts Center.
To audition for the show, please follow these two steps:
Complete all questions in the audition form no later than FRIDAY, AUGUST 19.
Then submit your audition video in Flip (formerly Flipgrid) by FRIDAY, AUGUST 19.
You must use your school email account to log in to the audition form and to log in to Flip. You can access the audition scenes (which you may download, print, or read from a device) in Flip. Please read all instructions for the audition video. Familiarize yourself with the appropriate passages; then record and post your video.
Call-backs will take place during the week of August 22. Students needed for call-backs will receive notification through school email, so be sure to check your email after August 19.
Please be aware that being a part of the fall play requires a commitment of your time throughout the rehearsal process. We will have daily rehearsals for a period of approximately seven weeks. Much like playing on a team or performing with a musical group, staging a play requires a dedication of your time. Please also be aware that students cast in this production will be responsible for providing specific costume pieces (which you may need to purchase), for selling advertising for the show's program, and for paying the District #201 activity fee.
If you have any questions (or any difficulties navigating Flip), please email me at jlodle@bths201.org. I look forward to seeing your audition video for THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME.
