Who We Are
Student Media is a branch under SGO and under this branch, there are three subdivisions of media: Graphics, Photography, and Videography. Compared to a club, we operate differently as we take on requests from the school and from students. However, we also get to work on our own projects, such as the 29 Questions Series, where we interview school staff.
We dabble with software like Adobe Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, etc., but most members choose to work with the ones that they're most comfortable with, such as DaVinci Resolve for video editing and Krita for graphics.
Who Are You Looking For?
We're looking for students who are passionate in the fields that they have applied for. Experience is NOT required to join because whether you are from the Photography Division, Graphics Division, or Videography Division, Student Media is a place where you can learn and practice skills.
It's also a bonus if you do have your own equipment for Photo/Video, eg. SD cards and a camera, but this shouldn't influence your want to join and gather experience, especially if you're an amateur or never even touched a camera. However, if you do get into the camera-based departments, please buy your own SD cards to avoid hassle.
Why Should I Apply?
Being a part of SGO's Student Media lets colleges know that you actively participate in the school's community. Furthermore, the experience that you can gather under us through the endless opportunities are able to let you have fun in what you love to do. We compete in film competitions, create our own projects, learn techniques, and so much more in a given year.
We also offer up to 12 club credits a year. While the most common misconception is that the SGO sticker is unnecessary, that SGO sticker gives you discounts to tickets, events, and senior dues.
Okay, I'm in. What do I need to do?
If you are interested in joining the Photo Division, make sure to continue reading for any prerequisites. Other than that, submit your application! It's found at the top of this page :)
PHOTO PREREQUISITES
3-5 photo screening, portrait has to be one of them. Photo division is based on composition and experience with a DSLR, but they occasionally let people with little experience join as long as they have a good eye for composition.
They try to keep numbers around 7-15 people, so create a portfolio on GSites during the next couple of months. Our example portfolio only has auditorium work, but keep a variety of images to showcase your work.
