Culture: different cultures, community, state, family traditions and customs

Economics: products (goods), services (products), consumers and producers, industries in Tennessee, wants and needs, saving money

Geography: map symbols, locate TN, Nashville, and Washington, D.C. on a U.S. map, three grand divisions of TN on a map

Government and Civics: role of Governor and President, patriotic traditions, rules and laws, citizenship, voting, role of mayor, Tennessee symbols

History: student's life in chronological order, simple timelines, past and present living, national holidays


Second grade will learn about life in the United States.

Culture: Students will explore how collaboration and respect for others is necessary to achieve and maintain a functioning society.

Economics: Students will analyze the U.S. in economic terms, including: producers and consumers, supply and demand, imports and exports, and why budgets are important.

Geography: Students will examine the geography of the U.S. in relation to the world, continue to learn that maps communicate useful information, and explore how the availability of resources affects the way people live.

Government and Civics: Students will explore the concept of democracy by learning about rules, authority, and national symbols in order to develop an understanding of the role of citizens and the U.S. government.

History: Students will analyze significant individuals and observances, utilize chronological sequences, and explore primary and secondary texts.
