Maria Keesler, has been with BOCES for 6 years. Maria has a wide and varied background having been an employment specialist, real estate agent, secretary, GED teacher, a high school business teacher, assistant principal and even a farmer. She holds an AAS degree in Business, a BS in Liberal Studies and an MS in Educational Leadership.
She is the very proud principal and Wolf PACK leader at the West Learning Center. She believes that all people can learn and grow in all areas of their lives and enjoys watching the progress experienced by everyone in our community.
Outside of school Mrs. Keesler is married to her amazing husband of 20 years and has two wonderful boys-one adult and one in middle school. She loves boating with her family during warm weather and during the many colder months in the Southern Tier, she enjoys sipping her coffee while watching a roaring fire as the snowflakes fall outside.
Dana Calandra is starting her third year as WLC’s Reclaim Assistant Principal. Prior to joining the Reclaim team, she was a high school history teacher and a special education teacher. She holds a BS in Adolescent Education, a MS in Adolescent Education Social Studies, a MS in Special Education, and a MS in Educational Leadership.
Mrs. Calandra believes that building relationships is the key for success, and she is dedicated to connecting each student and family to the variety of services, both in school and out, who can support them. She takes pleasure in helping students and families find success in a setting where they can truly grow. She is thankful to be part of the Reclaim team and a member of the Wolf PACK at WLC.
Outside of school Mrs. Calandra enjoys spending time with her husband and two young daughters. She enjoys browsing online shops, reading and playing with her kids. She does not enjoy cooking or cleaning. She can often be seen walking the hallways of WLC, coffee cup in hand, talking to staff and students.
Molly Hawley is starting her second year as WLC's Assistant Principal, overseeing the Crossroads, Futures and Alternative High school programs. Prior to BOCES, she was a middle school ELA teacher in Maine-Endwell. She holds a BA in English, an MAT in English 7-12, as well as a CAS, all from Binghamton University. This fall she is beginning work on her EdD at BU.
Mrs. Hawley lives by the "New day, fresh start," mantra. She is thankful for the grace WLC students and staff afford her, as she models making mistakes--sometimes several at a time! She firmly believes that while none of us has all the answers, together we have quite a few. She is grateful to have found her PACK.
In her spare time, Mrs. Hawley enjoys making her high school-er son cringe with embarrassment, hanging with her husband, working out, cooking, reading and, on occasion, hula-hooping.
Janelle “Nelly” Smith holds a BA in Sociology and an MA in Social Science from Binghamton University as well as an MSW from SUNY Albany. She is our supervisor of clinical social workers at WLC.
She is a New York State Licensed Clinical Social Worker with the “R” psychotherapy privilege with over 17 years’ experience providing clinical mental health treatment in a variety of settings including Outpatient Mental Health, Primary Care, School-Based Health, Hospice, and private practice.
Nelly is also a certified Yoga and Meditation instructor and holistic services provider. She enjoys digging for crystals in her spare time.
Hi my name is Beth. I am the Administrative Assistant for Mrs. Keesler and started with WLC in April 2019. I enjoy watching my children play sports and supporting them with whatever they are involved in. I also enjoy hiking, kayaking and reading scary books.
I have worked at BOCES for 15 years. I have been a classroom aide and now I am the one of the first friendly faces you see when you enter West Learning Center.
I am married and have 4 beautiful children. I also have 5 grandchildren. Two of my kids live in Ohio and the other live here with me. My youngest girl is starting 10th grade and my other daughter just started her first semester at The Culinary Institute of America.
I have 2 dogs, 2 cats, and 2 guinea pigs.
I love watching my daughter plays sports. She plays field hockey, bowling and softball.
My name is Heather Parkki, I have been married to my husband Grant Parkki for 23 years and we have two daughters, Hadessah 16 and Leia 14. We moved here from Alaska 2 years ago. I have been a school secretary for 14 years now and love it!
Excited to be a part of the WLC team!
My name is Judy Gilbert and I have worked at WLC for a little over a year, but I started at BT BOCES about 2½ years ago in the Adult Education Office. I have made clerical work my career, which I enjoy because I can help others further their work goals and I learn a great deal about the different types of business I have worked in. I am married, have one daughter and a granddaughter (who is going to be 15 this year – oy!), have a cat named Tooca and I love to go to garage sales and second hand stores. I am currently learning how to play the violin, and have gotten to the part where you “rosen up the bow”!
Wish me luck!
