The basic, state-funded School Library System service provides regional resources, professional development, and a means of sharing resources among component school libraries via inter-library loan. There is no cost for participation in the basic service. Expanded School Library System services are offered at an additional cost to component districts. They are listed below.
This service offers access to a Web-based, open source library automation program with a central server maintained at BOCES. In the initial year of implementation, Phase I includes database development in machine-readable (MARC) format and Phase II includes training and installation of hardware and software. Second year costs do not include start-up expenses.
Equipment Module: This service builds upon the core OPALS system to offer equipment management, a comprehensive module for tracking, inventorying and circulating assets.
Database Authentication: This service streamlines access to all district databases via a single webpage interface; students can enter a single password to access all database subscriptions.
Book Room Module: This service allows for the creation of a separate OPALS site to manage book room collections.
Prerequisites: Participation in the basic state-funded School Library System service and in the Expanded Database Development service.
Additional Costs: Barcodes, equipment, and special requests.
