Savita Devi, PhD, received her Master’s and Doctorate degree from University of Hyderabad, India; where she joined Prof. Niyaz Ahmed lab and identified a novel mechanism employed by Helicobacter pylori to evade robust immune activation by exploiting the functional plasticity of innate immune receptors.
In August 2017, she moved to USA for postdoctoral studies, first she joined Prof. Marja Nevalainen lab at Medical College of Wisconsin, USA and studied the role of JAK-STAT signaling in Prostate Cancer. Next, she did a short postdoc with Prof. Rodney Newberry at Washington University St. Louis, USA; where she worked on the role of goblet cell associated antigen passages in the induction and maintenance of tolerance in colon. In December 2019, she joined Prof. Christian Stehlik and Prof. Andrea Dorfleutner lab at Cedar-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, USA; where she deciphered the activation and regulation of NLRP3 inflammasome.
In February 2024, she moved back to India and started her own lab in the Department of Biological Sciences at IISER Berhampur. In May 2024, Savita joined Department of Biotechnology at IIT Hyderabad, where she is an Assistant Professor and headed an innate immunity and inflammasome focused laboratory.

Subhashree earned her master's degree in Zoology from the Central University of Kerala, where her dissertation explored ‘screening of brackishwater crab species for potential pathogens infecting the hepatopancreas’. In her current research, she explores innate immune sensing mechanisms, focusing on how diverse pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) and damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) activate the NLRP3 inflammasome.
She investigates its role in mediating inflammation across various diseases, aiming to identify therapeutic targets to better modulate immune responses and improve treatment strategies. In her leisure time, she enjoys exploring classical music, dancing, and sharing her passion for learning through teaching.
