Google Classroom is a Learning Management System (LMS) created by Google, which essentially houses assignments, announcements, and grades. All students are linked through their BSS Google Account to each Google Classroom. Students will be provided their username and password by teachers. If your child was enrolled last school year, their log in credentials may have carried over to this school year.
Some assignments will have a corresponding listing in Google Classroom. When possible, digital assignments will have the work attached in the Assignment Detail page, which are linked in each Weekly Calendar page on this website. Traditional pencil & paper assignments will not have a corresponding listing in Google Classroom.
4th Grade will be set up so that each subject has its own corresponding Google Classroom. Students must join all of these individual Google Classrooms in order to access assignments across all subjects.
Although all assignments will be housed in Google Classroom, the Student Portal on this website will serve as students' main "home page" for accessing assignments. Each week's work will be placed in an organizer based on day, subject, and time by linking to the Assignment Detail page in Google Classroom. The weekly assignment organizer will have a series of links for students to click, which will take them directly to those Assignment Detail pages.
Please be aware that only teachers and students who are members of each Google Classroom can access these Assignment Detail pages through the links. Because of this, you may not be able to view these pages using your web browser. I suggest checking these assignment detail pages together with your child after having them log in to their BSS Google Account through your web browser. This will allow for you to view these pages as your child would and help students and families plan ahead, especially for those opting into Remote Learning at this time.
No assignments listed in Google Classroom will be graded in Google Classroom. All grades will be posted in OptionC. Please refer to your child's grades in OptionC prior to inquiring about grades.
To stay updated on your child's grades, you will need to utilize the OptionC portal, which houses our gradebook system.
The best way to keep in touch with me is to message me through the ClassDojo app or web application. ClassDojo is a secure online platform that enables teachers and parents to communicate and share information easily.
If you have questions about communicating through ClassDojo, or would prefer not to join, the next best way to reach me with questions is to email me directly at akennedy@bssknights.org. OptionC messages are also a good way to get in touch with me.
I do my very best to answer messages and emails as soon as possible, and as such, my classroom policy is to answer ClassDojo & OptionC messages and direct emails within 24 hours of receiving them from Monday-Friday. My policy for emails or messages sent after 5:00 PM on Fridays is to answer by the end of the day on the following Monday. Please be aware that these timelines may not line up precisely when there are holidays, teacher workdays, or days when school is otherwise closed.
