While most of these are pretty self-explanatory it's important to remember they distinctions between them, and understand HOW they are used in dramatic work to communicate meaning.
Costume - what actors wear in role. Costumes can be historical, symbolic, represent status, contrast between characters and can change.
Lighting - The use of lighting affects how the dramatic space is arranged and organised. Lighting can be used to add colour, lightness or darkness to space to communicate different meaning.
Makeup - Some forms of make up are very formulaic and symbolic (Clown makeup for example), and can be linked the the expressive skill of facial expression. As with costume Makeup can be symbolic, show status, present particular archetypes etc....
Mask - Used in particular theatre types (Greek Theatre, Beijing Opera, Commedia Del'Arte) But can be used in any theatre style to add to the performance. Masks can be expressive, neutral, half face or whole face. They can be realistic or non-naturalistic.
Props - Items used on stage. Props can be real items used by characters in a performance or they can be symbolic - used in different ways or used in a way that allows for transformation.
