First Access is one of the UK governments key initiatives as part of the National Plan for Music Education. It is a good example of best UK and international practise in Music education and we are delighted to begin our journey with it at BSJ.
Year 4 students will be introduced to the cornet and the clarinet. All of the children in Year 4 are going to learn to play either the clarinet or the cornet for the rest of this academic year. These sessions will take place during their usual class Music lesson time and will be led by their music teacher, supported by members of our instrumental team.
Each child will receive their own instrument - there will be no sharing of instruments. Once students have received some basic training on how to play the instrument, they will be able to bring it home to practise, as long as they remember to bring it to school with them on Music days!
There will be no charge for this experience, although parents wishing their children to bring their instrument home will be asked to sign a damage waiver, in case of damage through misuse or negligence.
Please note that the instrument must be returned at the end of year 4 - or before your child departs if you are leaving the school prior to the year end.
Whilst we will do our best to give each child their preferred choice, this may not be possible in all circumstances due to numbers.Â
