Competency 1 Group Processes
Stakeholder 1
Stated that many of the staff won’t buy in to another behavior program approach since so many have been tried. I stated this could be different if led from a teacher team rather than administration.
Stakeholder 2
Stated that our school staff would be open to trauma informed education but would like term clearly defined with set boundaries for students and consistent follow through. There is no middle ground between general ed and special ed. Teachers have heard theory on behavior initiatives but need theory converted into practice. Agreed book study may be helpful.
Competency 2 Reflective Practice
Stakeholder 1
They agreed that there would need to be 80% buy in stated in Trauma Informed Handbook for change to be instituted in the school. We discussed the biggest issue staff reflects and disagrees on is the fact that there is no consistent follow through with Trauma student behaviors which keeps negative behaviors thriving. This is one thing that needs to change.
Stakeholder 2
Stated that teachers need toolbox to use right now for implementation of trauma-informed practices. Need a foundation team with people supporting kids of trauma. Discussions led to varying books I read over summer and how to best support staff. Implementation Guide to becoming a Trauma Informed School was discussed as a viable first option to educate key leadership team before bringing to staff. Take a step back to evaluate plan of implementation before jumping into informing staff about new trauma informed approach for the future.
All meetings were evidence of engagement in collaborative discussions with colleagues about teaching and learning.
Identify the part(s) of your plan you were able to implement (given the nature of leadership work, your project may actually continue beyond submission of your capstone portfolio).
How successful was your plan of action at addressing the challenge? Which stakeholders and practice or program were impacted? How do you know (site evidence)?
Given the outcomes, describe any changes you might make to the Capstone project plan of action.
