Hawthorne 4th graders are learning to play the soprano recorder! During our recorder unit we will focus on: reading pitch and rhythm from the staff, playing in an ensemble, tone production and articulation, and composing. Students will also learn about the instruments they can play in band and orchestra next year.

Students will have a recorder to play at school and a practice recorder to bring home. These are provided to students for free and are returned to the school at the end of the unit. Sheet music and backing tracks for at-home practice will be uploaded to this website, but I will provide paper copies upon request :)

Parents are invited to join us for a music class in March to celebrate Music in our Schools Month! Students will perform 2 recorder songs all together and then do solo/group performances of their choice. The date is TBD, but I am looking at March 23rd or 30th.
