Freshmen are required to register for a minimum of six credits and be at the high school for seven class periods. You will work with your middle school counselor to get registered for your freshman year. Signatures will be required for your math placement (math teacher), world language placement (if continuing in the same world language from middle school), and Zero Period requests (parent signature).
Freshmen have five required credits:
English
GeoPhysical Science
Math
World Geography
Health Enhancement
A 1.0 credit class is one period a day for one year; a 0.5 credit class is one class period for one semester. Study Hall, Teacher's Aide (TA), and Academic Support Center do not count for credit, but would take a period in your day.
AM or Zero Period classes start at 7:30 am. The district does not provide transportation.
BHS and GHS offer sections of freshman English, GeoPhysical Science, Geometry, and World Geography that are designed to challenge gifted and highly capable students. These classes are extremely rigorous and require significantly more reading, research, and writing than typical freshman classes, although they cover the same district curriculum.
Students already identified as GATE learners who are interested in registering for GATE courses should check their email inboxes for instructions from Lena Wessel.
Students interested in GATE courses, but not currently identified can register to take a GATE Screening. Please read this letter for more detailed information.

Can I transfer schools? There are very specific reasons for which a student can request a transfer and not every request is granted. You can find out more about the district's high school transfer process here.
No, Study Hall is not offered zero period, however students who are dropped of early can often find a quiet spot in the common areas, cafeteria, or library to get homework completed. Also, a full list of classes that are trying to get enough students to run zero period can be found here on page 15!
