Educational Services: Most students will have their academic needs met in the classroom and during the tiered-support time(s) for math and reading within the school structure. In keeping with the district’s MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support) process, there will be an effort to keep the focus on student learning and growth, not simply meeting grade level expectations. Our gifted education teacher will provide enrichment at least once a week to 4th and 5th grade groups at each school.
MSU Mentors: 3-5: MSU Honors College mentors (25 mentors paired with 25 3-5 students 1 hr per week each semester. The MSU mentor works with the teacher to find an appropriate time. Mentor/Mentee showcases are at the end of each semester at MSU Honors College (Dec. 9 & May 6). To recommend one of your students for a mentor, please use this form.

What are gifted kids like? Well - it’s a complicated question. Some people have found this chart helpful, and you might notice that, like all kids, gifted children are hard to put into a neat box. Sometimes gifted students demonstrate asynchronicity where one part of their brain develops faster than another. You may see this in certain behaviors vs. ability. Gifted children are highly sensitive to their environment and react with heightened emotional and behavioral responses, more so than do children of average intelligence.
