Reflect

Interpersonal Effectiveness, Developing - I’ve started building relationships with some of the new teachers. I’ve built a shared community that we can use for student benefit (Google Classroom - evidence on design page) and drafted emails that I can send to the new teachers when possible. I’ve also worked with my principal and curriculum director to create a shared vision for this group (evidence of meetings on learn page).

Adult Learning, Developing - Before starting this process I knew nothing about adult learning. Through the reading I’ve done (evidence on learn page) on mentoring I feel that I’ve learned to meet the needs of the adult learners in my group. I’ve learned about mentoring different generations and have plans to take into accounts the strengths and needs of the teachers in my group. Since I haven’t actually started the group yet I don’t think that I can consider myself performing, but I hope to be by the end of this project.

Collaborate Purposefully, Developing - Since I haven’t been able to implement this plan yet I still think that I’m developing. I’ve created a learning environment that will take into account cultures or experiences beyond their own, and have planned to take into account the strengths and differences of the teachers I’ll be working with (Google Form on Design page). My hope is to create a shared vision and model the importance of using diversity and equity to guide work once I’m able to get the group underway.

Facilitating Collaborative Relationships, Performing - I think I’m performing in this area. I’ve implemented a new group through collaboration with my principal, curriculum director and stakeholders outside my district and participated in a constructive collaboration with those stakeholders to make decisions and implement a resolution to our challenge. I’ve created a group that will connect and support colleagues and have a plan for our face to face meetings to help build relationships among the teachers. (Evidence of meetings and collaboration with stakeholders on learn page)

The next step for me will be actually implementing this project when school starts in the fall. So far I’ve just done the planning stages, so now I’ll actually start the work of putting this in place. I know that I will have a pretty big learning curve as this project actually begins, so I’m prepared to continue learning and reaching out to stakeholders who might be able to help me.

The most valuable part of the TLI process was the chance to connect with other educators who share similar values (growth and reflection) in our face to face meetings. I also really appreciated hearing from teachers from all over the U.S. in the online discussions.
