Welcome! We are so excited that you are interested in learning an instrument with us this year! Please read the information below to get started:
Watch the program presentation to get excited about playing in an ensemble!
If you are new to an instrument this school year (fall 2025), please decide on your top 3 instrument choices based on sound, size, and type of ensemble music you like best. String Bass, French Horn, and Oboe are not available.
Students who played in the orchestra or band last year will need to register again this year.
Some instruments are more popular, and students may need to play their 2nd or 3rd choice instrument. Options for beginning 5th graders may be limited to select instruments.
Orchestra and band are optional classes, and students will be taken out of their regular and related arts classes (and sometimes recess) to come to group lessons. Our classes require practice homework 4-5 nights per week.
At the start of the school year, the band and orchestra teachers will demonstrate the instruments in a school day presentation to all 4th and 5th grade students before official registration for class so students can listen to and view the instruments available.
DO NOT rent or purchase an instrument until the ensemble teacher reaches out to you with a final confirmation of the instrument your child will be playing for the year. It is recommended that elementary students rent instruments instead of purchasing one. Rental fees often include unlimited repairs and exchanges when students need to size up their instrument for orchestra.
