Every few years Troop 98 hosts a Camporee, a weekend campout where Scouts from many other troops gather to compete in Scout skills like first aid, fire building, cooking, pioneering, canoeing, orienteering and more. The troop always picks a cool theme that ties together all the competitions.
The troop's first camporee in 2009 had a Hollywood theme (every event was based on a movie) and in 2015 our theme was Axis vs. Allies (every event was based on World War II). For each of those events the troop designs a cool patch. The Fall Camporee in October 2017 was based on Star Wars and made it into Boys' Life and Scouting magazines! And in 2022 we hosted the Pirates of the Caribbean Camporee.
On this page are pictures of the patches that were designed for each of the camporees Troop 98 planned and hosted.
Why does Troop 98 host camporees?
As a very large unit we've found that we are at our best when we are working towards ambitious goals. We ran the BP District Camporee in 2009 [photos], 2015, 2017 [photos], and 2022 [photos] and we have been the "anchor program" for the COL Philadelphia Encampment for every year it has run. An event like this creates the need for us to bring "all hands on deck", creates opportunities for youth leadership, and generates tremendous enthusiasm both inside and outside of our troop.
