Conversely, these companies have drastic differences, primarily though the foods and meals they specialize in. Certainly, Red Robin's expertise is in burgers, The Cheesecake Factory offers a wide range of American and International dishes with their advantage in dessert, specifically cheesecake. In terms of key metrics, I decided to incorporate gross profit, total revenue, net income, total current assets, and total current liabilities. For gross profit, it is crucial to understand how a restaurant produces revenue after costs of labor and ingredients, and gives analysis into how a company's pricing strategy and profitability from an operations point of view. Red Robin is only ahead of Potbelly Sandwich Shop for Gross Profit, largely in part to high cost of goods sold from outsourcing many of their ingredients. Regarding total revenue, Red Robin has had growth year over year since 2020, and in 2022 they rank third amongst their peers. The growth in revenue can be correlated to a larger focus in online sales due to restaurant shutdowns during the pandemic, online sales have become integrated into Red Robin's overall revenues. Moving on to net income, Red Robin has had negative net income over the past five years. In 2022, they posted net income of $-77.8 million, their lowest since the pandemic in 2020. This is largely in part to the company's failure to outweigh expenses with total revenue. Red Robin has a lot of money tied up in cost of goods sold, selling general and admin expenses, a moderate net interest expense.
