In the Fall semester of 2020, Richmond Hill Middle School launched a comprehensive STEM program within the school. The STEM program exposes our students to project-based learning and collaboration from teachers across all subject areas using the engineering design process. Students in STEM at RHMS learn their standards by solving real-world problems and engaging with community experts. Applying these skills is a valuable component of our core academic classes. In addition, Connections classes work through common themes and relevant topics at each grade level to support STEM integration. Within Connections, students can also choose to participate in STEM Art competitions, Drone Team, ROV Team, H2GP Grand Prix, and Green Power USA racing.
Certified by the GA Department of Education in the spring of 2022 as one of the few middle schools in the state to have STEM certification, Richmond Hill Middle School has now worked to move STEM beyond just a program offered at the school. In the fall of 2025, all students at RHMS will be a part of the STEM program, while RHMS provides additional experiences for all students and pursues our recertification as a STEM School instead of a STEM Program. While our number of students has grown, we have never changed our commitment to promoting a cooperative learning environment through project-based learning experiences. Through these experiences, students are expected to conduct research, develop solutions, collect data, evaluate, and present outcomes to teachers and community experts.
