Chemistry
Welcome to the world of reactions, explosions (the safe kind!), and the tiny particles that make up everything around you! This chemistry course takes you on a journey through atoms, molecules, the periodic table, chemical bonding, reactions, energy changes, acids and bases, and more. You'll discover how chemistry explains the world, from the air we breathe and the water we drink to the medicines we take and the materials in our phones; chemistry is behind it all.
As the “central science,” chemistry connects to biology, physics, medicine, and environmental science. You’ll build strong problem-solving skills through hands-on labs and real-world applications, setting the stage for success in college and beyond.
Let’s mix things up and uncover the secrets of the stuff that makes up everything!
Physics
Get ready to explore the universe, from roller coaster loops to lightning bolts! This algebra-based physics course dives into the exciting world of motion, mechanics, forces, electricity, matter, waves, optics, and even some mind-bending modern physics. You’ll uncover the secrets behind how things move, interact, and behave, all while building the skills you'll need to tackle college-level science with confidence.
Through hands-on experiments, real-world problem solving, and a bit of number-crunching, you’ll develop a solid understanding of the physical world. Success in this course means being curious, engaged, and ready to put in the work both inside and outside the classroom.
Let’s make physics your new favorite adventure in science!
About Me
Hey there, future scientists!
I'm Mrs. Ratliff, a second-year chemistry and physics teacher who believes science is best learned through curiosity, hands-on experiences, and a classroom where every student feels valued.
When I'm not teaching, I am spending time with my husband (Josh), our one-year-old daughter (Shelby), and our little crew of animals. We have a three-year-old black lab named Willow, two mischievous beagle puppies named Johnny and June, and a chicken named Loretta, who definitiely has a personality all her own!
My goal as an educator is to create a classroom where students feel encouraged to ask questions, take risks, and discover that science isn't just a subject, it's a way of understanding the incredible world around us. I'm excited to continue growing as a teacher and to share my passion for science with every student who walks through my classroom door.
