Unit 1: The Stories We Tell
Students explore how stories are organized and how authors help readers understand characters, events, and important lessons.

In this unit, students will:

Identify characters, setting, problem, and solution
Describe how characters respond to challenges
Compare different versions of familiar stories
Learn about point of view
Use descriptive language in speaking and writing
Write their own narrative stories

Students will also strengthen:

Reading fluency
Phonics and decoding skills
Vocabulary development
Grammar and sentence writing

Unit 2: Knowledge Quest
Students explore informational texts and learn how authors teach readers through facts, details, and explanations.

In this unit, students will:

Identify main idea and supporting details
Learn how text features help readers understand information
Explore science and social studies topics through reading
Ask questions and conduct simple research
Organize and share information clearly
Write informational pieces using facts and definitions

Students will also strengthen:

Unit 3: The Way I See It
Students learn how authors share opinions and support their ideas with reasons and evidence.

Unit 4: Wise Words
Students explore stories, poems, and figurative language while learning how authors use words creatively.

In this unit, students will:

Identify rhyme, repetition, and other poetic elements

Compare stories from different cultures
Write poems and narrative pieces

Unit 5: Everything Changes
Students explore informational and opinion texts connected to science and social studies topics.

Unit 3: Georgia Becomes a Colony
Students learn about the founding of Georgia and important historical figures connected to early Georgia history.

Learn about James Oglethorpe, Tomochichi, Mary Musgrove, and Sequoyah
Explore how geography influenced settlement and trade
Learn about goods, services, money, and barter
Locate important places connected to Georgia’s history

Unit 4: Georgians and Civil Rights
Students learn about important Georgians who helped bring about change and equality.

In this unit, students will:

Learn about Jackie Robinson and Martin Luther King Jr.
Explore leadership, fairness, and perseverance
Understand how people can influence society
Learn how choices can affect opportunities and outcomes

Unit 5: Georgia Leaders
Students explore the lives and contributions of important Georgia leaders.

Learn about Juliette Gordon Low and Jimmy Carter
Explore leadership and service to others
Learn how geography influenced people’s lives
Understand how goods and services are shared in communities

Unit 6: Our Georgia
Students learn about government, geography, and economics in Georgia today.

In this unit, students will:
