Class Overview
In Lit II, students read a mix of fiction and nonfiction texts to build their reading comprehension and literary analysis techniques. Through the study of stories, speeches, articles, and poems, students learn critical thinking skills through analyzing author's purpose in regard to language, tone, sentence structure, etc. There is a heavy emphasis placed on writing essays independently, completing purposeful and direct research, and practice organizing their thoughts to clearly explain or argue a prompt with direct evidence. Students learn new vocabulary, improve grammar, and work on speaking and listening through class discussions and presentations. The goal is to help them become strong readers, writers, and communicators.
The 10th Grade AVID Elective (AVID 2) builds on the skills students developed in 9th grade by helping them become more independent, confident, and college- and career-ready learners. Students strengthen their organization, time management, note-taking, and study skills while developing critical thinking, effective communication, and collaboration through inquiry-based learning and tutorials. They also explore college and career pathways in greater depth, set academic and personal goals, and take greater responsibility for their success in rigorous high school courses. AVID creates a supportive environment that encourages students to challenge themselves academically, build leadership skills, and prepare for the opportunities and expectations of their junior and senior years and beyond.
About Me
Hi all! My name is Mrs. Olivia Boyer! I have been teaching for nine years...going into year 11 (...so long that I can finally just type the number - a little grammar joke...) !!! :) I lived in Savannah, Ga my whole life, but I moved to Richmond Hill with my husband about ten years ago! We love the community here for our littles! :) Originally from Savannah, I am a southerner at heart, but I did trek up to Philadelphia for my four years of Undergrad! My background is in English Literature, Creative Writing, and Theater. I believe in teaching content through the lens of the real world; critical thinking, creativity and kindness are the foundational pieces of our world. We are going to have the best year! Go Wildcats!
