Class Overview

French courses focus on the development of communicative competence and understanding of the culture(s) of the people who speak French. Listening and reading skills will progress at a slightly higher level than speaking and writing skills do. The key to success is to practice both written and speaking skills every day.

The Level I French language course focuses on the development of communication

(reading, writing, speaking, and listening) in the target language and understanding of

the culture(s) of the people who speak the language. It assumes that the students

have minimal or no prior knowledge of the language and culture. The class is

vocabulary heavy, as well as basic grammar structure for sentence construction.

The Level II French language course focuses on the continued development of

communication (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) in the target language and

understanding of the culture(s) of the people who speak the language. It assumes that

the students have successfully completed a Level I course or are at a Novice-Mid level

of proficiency. It is a more advanced vocabulary and grammar class than Spanish I.

The Level III French language course focuses on the continued development of

communication (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) in the target language and

understanding of the culture(s) of the people who speak the language. It assumes that

the students have completed a Level II course or are at a Novice-Mid to Novice-High

level of proficiency. The class is grammar heavy and it builds the foundation for college

bound students, or students who intend to continue on to French 4 or AP French.
