Class Overview

10th Grade English Language Arts – 

This semester-long 10th Grade English Language Arts course is organized around four thematic units: Coming of Age, Overcoming Obstacles, Science Fiction and Society, and Lessons from History. Aligned with Georgia’s newly revised ELA standards, the course builds students’ skills in critical reading, effective writing, and purposeful communication.

Throughout the course, students will:

• Interpret and evaluate a variety of literary, informational, and multimodal texts, considering how purpose, audience, context, and perspective shape meaning
  
  

• Construct narrative, expository, argumentative, poetic, and multimodal texts tailored to specific audiences and purposes
  
  

• Apply a range of writing techniques and text structures to create clear, cohesive, and engaging compositions
  
  

• Strengthen language and grammar skills through focused work on syntax, parallel structure, academic vocabulary, and word analysis, including Greek and Latin roots
  
  

• Conduct research to deepen understanding and support original writing
  
  

Instruction is guided by Georgia’s ELA practices, including Engagement and Intention, Situating Texts, Author’s Craft, and Collaboration and Presentation. The course concludes with the state-mandated End of Course (EOC) assessment, which evaluates student mastery of reading, writing, language, and communication standards.
