This is a theme-related, literature-based, integrated course focused on American literature and its impact on our culture and society. The literature includes works from historical literary periods such as the Colonial Period, the Romantic Period, the Realist Period, the Modernist Period, and the Post-Modern Period. Attention is given to theme-oriented poetry, short stories, essays, non-fiction, and full-length works. Literary devices, content, style, and cultural diversity are studied. Vocabulary skills, research skills, public speaking, various forms of composition, test preparation, as well as the use of technology are integrated into the semester’s study. Emphasis is placed on the development of critical and analytical thinking skills through discussion and frequent compositions.
Hi! I'm Alison Davis, your Lit/Comp III teacher. I'm so excited to be at Richmond Hill High School this year!
This is my 18th year in education, and my 7th year in Bryan County Schools. I enjoyed the last six years at RHMS, where I taught some truly amazing students and worked with dedicated colleagues. I hold a bachelor's degree in English Education from Tusculum University in Greenville, TN, and a master's degree in School Library Media from East Tennessee State University. Ultimately, I chose to be a teacher because, more than anything, I love the community that a classroom creates, where we can discuss complex topics that we read about together. Every year, I learn and grow as a person because of the students I teach and the experiences they share with our classroom.
I'm married with one child - you will see her around campus - and I have the best puppy dog. I enjoy reading, listening to music, gardening, and antiquing.
I'm excited to spend our inaugural year in this brand-new, beautiful building! Let's get started!
