What was the Inca Empire?
The Incan Empire is located in between Southern Columbia and Southern Chile. They had the largest empire in South America, and it stretched across the entire western side (van Dop). The Inca had very hilly terrain. They had many large valleys, very elevated plains, and very deep ravines (Guamán and de Ayala). The Inca had a very influential road network and with this very difficult terrain it made building the roads difficult. The Inca Empire survived about a century. The time period was from 1438 to 1533. The Inca had a lot of land, about 12 million people, more than a hundred ethnic groups, good road systems, and great architecture. Even though the Incan empire prospered for a long time, they were destroyed when the Spanish attacked (Basso). The Inca originated in Cuzco which was their capital. They already had to expand and it was easier for them because of trails and things left from past civilizations. Pachuti, one of the most influential emperors, had the city of Cuzco raised and rebuilt (Jarus).
