Ancient China was an extremely important civilization that created many inventions that are still in use and highly functional in today's society. Ancient China was established in 2100 BCE during the Xia Dynasty (ended in 1600 BCE), which is the earliest known recording of ancient China's existence. Xia is considered as one of the 3 main Chinese dynasties, (Xia, Shang, Zhou). Proof of the Xia dynasty's existence has been highly disputed until recently. This dynasty is known for making canals, establishing provinces and building a strong army. The Shang dynasty began in 1600 BCE and ended in 1050 BCE. This dynasty is known for creating the first Chinese writing systems, worshiping their god Shang Di, creating musical instruments, and creating bronze (more on that later as well!). The Zhou Dynasty Began in 1044 BCE and ended in 256 BCE, making this one of the longest dynasties ever! Many inventions were introduced to ancient China during this Dynasty like iron, ox drawn plows, crossbows, and horseback riding. The next most important event is when Confucius entered Chinese politics in 539 BCE, and created the religion Confucianism, which was followed by most ancient Chinese civilians and formed Chinese social and government structures. The religion of Confucianism was abolished in 1905 CE with the termination of Civil Service Exams (more on that later!). The Qin dynasty began in 221 BCE and ended in 206 BCE. Though not considered one of the main dynasties, the Han were of power in China for over 400 years (206 BCE-220 CE). In this time several innovations and cultural advances took place. The invention of paper and the compass were two influential inventions that we still use today. Without the existence of these Ancient Chinese dynasties and their inventions who knows what we would do today without them.
