As a child, I always wondered what “I would do when I grow up”. This question runs through every kid’s head at some point and we all thought, “oh I want to be a firefighter”, or a police officer. I was exactly the same. Little did I know I would be so passionate about something like marketing and media. Through BRVGS I have gotten to work on projects as the marketing director and it opened the door to an entirely new interest to me and I realized how interested in marketing I ended up being. Managing the face of a company and finding new ways to promote a company, organization, or even individual’s ideas has a much greater impact than I realized. This is why I chose marketing as my senior topic. Throughout my internship, I want to really see what a day is for someone that works in marketing, what the meetings are like, how they present their ideas, etc. I also want to gain a bigger picture understanding of the world of marketing. One of the hardest parts of choosing this topic was the fact that I am not incredibly experienced in marketing which makes it harder to get started. This is why I will need to conduct research before starting my internship so that when I go in I have a better idea of what they will be showing or what they will ask me to do. I am excited to explore marketing farther and find information that is new to me.
I am a very motivated worker when it comes to things I am interested in which means I will be incredibly focused and diligent when I am working on my interest. I also enjoy talking with people to learn and communicate ideas. During my internship I will be able to communicate well with the people I am working with and put my ideas out there clearly while still learning. When I am constructing a project I want my final product to show my work in a positive light which pushes me to work my hardest. My main issue will come in not being motivated to do the little things that are important. I am quite the procrastinator when it comes to small things and it always starts with me telling myself that I work better under pressure which is only true to a certain extent. This also tends to make me unorganized and makes the end of the project much more stressful. To make sure I maximize my strengths one thing I will need to do is come up with questions and things I am curious about before I walk into my internship so I can remember those as well as questions I think of while I am there to ensure I get all information I need for my research and overall understanding of my topic. To keep my liabilities from getting in my way I will need to pay attention to details and not leave the small things for the end. This will keep me on track and make sure I have everything in order.
