Why get the Swatch app? (Problem)
When there is a crime scene with an unknown perpetrator or multiple suspects, it is important for police officers and investigators to figure out who is guilty immediately in order to take proper precautions to keep everyone safe. One of the current way for officials to find evidence and determine who is behind a crime is by collecting loose fibers from the scene and trying to match them to the suspect's clothing. This is done by collecting fibers from the crime scene and sending them off to a lab. However, waiting around for results while there is a perpetrator on the loose gives everyone an uneasy feeling and isn't as timely as it could be. This period of waiting for results gives chances for the perpetrator to potentially cause more harm and damage.
Product Description:
Swatch can be used by police and investigators to get instantaneous results to check if different fibers around the crime scene match each other, or the clothes known to be worn by potential suspects. While Swatch can not test threads for DNA, it can give quick feedback before the threads are sent off to police labs for further investigation.
Target Market:
This app is targeted for police officials and crime investigators to use on the spot to check loose fibers and find their matches.
In 2016, there were an estimated 1,197,704 violent crimes committed in the United States. Based on UCR data, there are currently 250,000 unsolved murders and about 6,000 new cases per year. Unsolved murder cases are a burden both to the family of the victim and the investigators. The families are left without closure and the investigators drain all their time and resources to find the murderer. Additionally, crime scene getaways are increasingly common and involve an immense amount of resources. With Swatch, these numbers can be lowered by having some instantaneous results with the fibers before sending them to a lab and awaiting results.
