"This photo was taken by Rachel Posner, wife of Rabbi Dr. Akiva Posner, on Chanukah 1932 in Kiel, Germany. The Menorah (or, in this case, Chanukiah) is recognized by the entire world as a symbol of Jewish faith. In the photo, the family's Chanukiah stands boldly and proudly on a windowsill as the street outside is decorated with Nazi flags. The Posner family lighting their Chanukiah across the street from their Nazi neighbors represents their spiritual resistance to the anti-Semitic agenda of the Nazis. Rachel Posner's photograph is an emblem of our survival and resilience as a Jewish nation: a perfect introduction to the Spiritual Resistance exhibit of our museum"
