What is better than a good book? Not much. However, before you read a book aloud to your class... pause. If you are reading it over the internet, even if it is not recorded, you must have permission from the publisher. Truth.
The good news is most publishers are being awesome about it and extending their copyright permissions to December. Most. Not all. Those that are still have some requirements, usually filling out a form or sending an email letting them know, and announcing their permission at the start of the reading.
Click through to the School Library Journal webpage/article on topic. This is a really helpful site because they are acting as a clearing house for all publishers to submit their updated rules, so it's all in one spot. If the publisher you want/need isn't listed, feel free to contact them directly.
This website is a result of many organizations stepping into a virtual space to support teachers and families during COVID-19. The following organizations have been involved as members of our Creative Design Team, assisting in developing content and formatting of the website itself, as well as offering sessions to support teaching and learning. It is our hope that this platform becomes a welcome resource for; organizations to share their amazing work, for teachers and educators to collaborate, and for families and students to access the rich array of resources that are right here in the great State of Maine!
