Fifth Grade Band

Meet the Teachers Night September 22nd, 2022, 6:30PM-7:45PM for the Elementary School. See you there!

Fifth Grade Band Schedule:
Monday's: Flutes

Tuesday's Clarinets

Wednesday's: Saxophones and French Horns

Thursday's: Trumpets

Friday's: Low Brass and Percussion

Our Fifth Grade Band consist groups which meet in small group lessons once a week before the school day for the first half of the year. The second half of the year we add one large group rehearsal per week in addition to your small group lesson.

You will be learning how to read music, develop tone quality, develop ear training, correct hand position, appropriate playing posture and basic performance skills to assist in the musical development of each individual student.

You should be practicing at least 60 minutes per week outside of the school lesson. We recommend 10 minutes per day. Consistent practice is essential for progress to occur with the students ability to achieve and master your instrument. We also recommend that the practice session occur at the same time everyday so that practice becomes habit like, reading, exercise or a hobby.

Sixth Grade Band

The sixth grade band is comprised of students who have had one year of instrumental instruction. Each week students meet for a small group lesson. Every other day students meet for a large group ensemble. The lesson portion of the band requirement addresses developing pedagogical skills which improves the students overall musical development.

Monday's Flutes

Tuesday's Clarinets

Wednesday's Saxophone and French Horn

Thursday's Trumpets

Friday's Percussion

Students will be developing their individual musical skills, small ensemble skills and large ensemble skills throughout the school year. The course will cover tone development, articulation, scale studies, musical dynamics, composition, notation, basic music theory competence, improvisation aptitude, ear training, rhythmic development, cultural origins of a piece, and historical time periods of selected compositions.

The Sixth Grade Band develops a basic mastery of the techniques mentioned earlier. This will be attained in conjunction with the use of Essential Elements 2000 Book 1, Rubber Band Arrangements, and multiple supplemental musical materials to enhance each students learning style. The students will gain practical knowledge of these concepts and will be assessed through prepared playing exams, concert performance and quarterly exams.

It is strongly encouraged that students bring their instruments home at least a couple of times per week to practice during the school week. We are expecting students to average 60 minutes of practice per week outside of rehearsals and lessons. Individual practice will ensure mastery of skills necessary to achieve progress on your instrument.
