Welcome back to Term 4, Year 6 Te Ngahere!
We are looking forward to getting back and having another productive term. This term is going to be really busy, below is a brief outline of the activities students will be involved in.
Here are a few points and a heads up to help this term run smoothly:
Students will be able to enter the building at 8:30am.
Students can hang their bags on the deck that is out from their class spaces.
Rooms 26 &27- deck closest to Office Building
Rooms 24 &25 - deck closest to the Hall
BYOD - We encourage those students who own a Chromebook or laptop, to make sure their computer is fully charged and brought to school each day this term. Students should not need to bring a charger to school.
As part of our PB4L (Positive Behaviour for Learning) this term we are focusing on how to deal with stress and making sure we have a can do attitude.
Homework Location - This will remain the same as last term and students can access through their google classroom, as they do in class.
Homework Projects - Students will be working on their Unfolding Stories in class this term. To complete this presentation project about themselves, they will need to have conversations with families at home, and be able to source photos and important artifacts to use in their work. These could be emailed digitally to student emails, or brought in to school by the students. It would be best for photos to be copies, rather than originals. Students will also be writing a Graduation speech in class later this term. This is a written reflection of their primary school years. Oral delivery of this is approximately 3 minutes. Support from home is very much appreciated when students are initially generating ideas, and then practicing and refining later on. Your child will keep you informed as to when this begins. Guidelines will be available for them on Google Classroom, at the time.
Programs
Life Education - This programme will be running across the school during Weeks one to four of this term. Life Education have been providing health and wellbeing programmes in New Zealand, delivered through interactive learning experiences. We will be focusing on fostering a sense of belonging, compassion and understanding. We will also be exploring making good choices and how to approach challenges such as peer-pressure and the upcoming transition to a new school.
Waterwise - The waterwise program will start from Wednesday week four. The timetable and information for these sessions were sent home at the end of Term 3. Specific dates are noted below.
Swimming - Later in the term swimming in our school pool will commence.
Social Dance - This is the Studio Programme for Term 4. We will be covering the history and development of dance, ballroom and latin dances and learning two dance styles with a professional dance tutor. The students will all be performing the dances they have learned at Jingle and dancing at Graduation.
Rainbows End - Students will be attending Rainbow's End on Tuesday 26th November. A notice will be coming home in Week 2 regarding a job contract. We’re setting the Year 6 students a challenge to help out in some small ways around their homes to fund this.
Jingle - Jingle will be on Thursday 5th December this year. Students will be practising dances and singing prior to this lovely family evening. As usual we will have fundraising opportunities such as Jingle Jars and food. More information will come out on this closer to the end of term.
Athletics - Our Physical Education focus for weeks one to five is Athletics. We are specifically looking at the skills of discus, shotput, high jump, sprints and relays. The cluster athletics is marked for the27th Novemebr.
Graduation - Graduation will be on Thursday 12th December. It is traditional for Year 6 pupils to be farewelled from Browns Bay School by having a celebration evening in Term 4. The ceremony will begin at 6:00 pm and we would love you to attend. There will be a dance for the children straight afterwards.
Kapa Haka - Kapa Haka starts again this week. We will be working towards our festival performance, and Jingle performance involving waiata, poi and rakau.
