There are many ways to keep your mind active while still having a relaxing break! For me, I love to fill my days with watching movies while drinking hot chocolate or baking warm chocolate chip cookies. I also like to try new things such as following a Bob Ross tutorial or going skiing with my friends. However, it's good to keep in mind that if you have upcoming AP test (cough cough me) to sprinkle in a some study time once in a while.

Keeping your mind active doesn’t have to mean studying prep books or learning a new subject. It can be fun and mainly requires avoiding a four week binge watch. You could try playing a game of Jeopardy with family or picking up a new skill like baking. If the weather is nice — with Nebraska you never know — you could relax in the park with a book or go on a bike ride, but if it snows, you could try sledding instead. Whatever goals you have, winter break is the time to start because most of us never actually succeed at our New Year’s Resolutions. Whether it’s starting a workout routine or ending a bad habit, this is the perfect time to start, and your mind will thank you for it when school starts back in January.

"Dear Susie, I'm overworking myself and not getting sleep. What should I do?"
Dear Restless,
Lack of slumber is a common issue at the end of the semester for busy and involved students. The best advice I can give you is to make a schedule of your schoolwork to stick to, in order to get in bed by a decent hour. Limit distractions, such as your phone or loud music, to really focus and get everything done early. Also make your time count when you aren't doing schoolwork, by partaking in self care to destress. My personal favorites are long hot showers, making hot chocolate, and exercising. Looking forward to our long winter break can also help motivate you by showing how much sleep you will be getting soon. Hope that helps!
