BSCF was started by Brodie Friesen. She is an active member of Campus Crusade for Christ International. It all started back in 2010. A Morning Mail announcement was sent out asking staff members to unite and learn more about Jesus Christ. The following is from Brodie herself...
"In the midst of ministering to the students of Brown University, I developed some very impactful relationships with Brown University staff. Wanting to see the entire campus touched with the love of Jesus I began praying for a way to reach out to and care for the staff - the behind the scenes lifeblood of the university! In the spring (if my memory serves me correctly) of 2010 I hosted a brown bag prayer lunch for any and all staff at Brown in the Chaplains office lounge on the 4th floor of J. Walter Wilson.
God blessed that first gathering of three! Over the year our monthly gathering grew in a core number of participants and saw an ever increasing rotation of new faces. The email list grew and grew including custodial staff, police, professors, coaches, post-docs, and support staff. In the second year we changed from once a month to the first and third Fridays. Regular attendees spoke of this fellowship as an "oasis in their week" and a "safe place to share and be lifted up."
The Brown Staff Christian Fellowship began hosting open houses one to two times a year and welcomed members of the greater RISD community. RISD now has their own fellowship group meeting regularly! We have wrapped our arms around hurting members of our community, grieved sudden losses, celebrated new births, and helped each other through many professional and personal transitions.
We look forward to God's continued faithfulness to the fellowship and the new and familiar faces to contribute to the growing community!
