What is the Summer Alumni Connections Program?

Utilizing the virtual space, we are excited to continue the Summer Alumni Connections Program, helping students secure important alumni connections during the summer months.

The program will cultivate meaningful conversations between Brown alumni and students, and is a great opportunity for current Brown undergraduates to connect with alumni who will share personal and professional insight, advice, and expertise.

We anticipate these alumni connections will have a great impact on their “life after Brown” planning, as well as expand their personal network.

How does it work?

This program runs June 3 - July 26, 2024. This includes two small group meetings, with two individual meetings with your designated alumni.
Each week the alumni and students will find a time to meet and discuss topics previously outlined.
Listen and discuss with your peers and alumni to help navigate life after Brown.
Attend small group sessions and a networking event to connect with alums outside their alumni match
Provide feedback about this program, as we hope to grow the program in future summers

What would my role be as a student?

This program will be a hybrid of both small group and one-on-one mentoring over the course of five weeks. Students are expected to be willing to engage in career exploration with Brown Alumni and their peers.

Alumni discussion topics include:

Career path from Brown to present day
Industry information and the skills necessary to succeed in the field
Stories of failure and success from the career journey and imposter syndrome
Working with mentees and future planning
Shared lessons and advice

WHAT DO I LEAVE WITH?

New alumni contacts they feel comfortable engaging with on an ongoing basis, if desired
Better understanding of how to explore a career path or how to access different careers globally
Insight into the daily routine of various positions and how to succeed in particular, distinct industries
An understanding of the basic skill set required to enter into the field as an intern or entry level employee

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I REGISTER?
Once applications are completed, BrownConnect will match students with alumni in early June. Students will then receive an email from their alumni connection to coordinate meeting times with groups.

BrownConnect will check in with all participants throughout the program, and provide resources for all volunteers.

TIMELINE OF THE SUMMER :

Application deadline: May 28th at 5pm EDT
Program acceptance notifications: May 29, 2024
Small group assignments: First week in June
Weekly meetings from June 3 - July 26, 2024 (with the week of July 4th off). Alumni will coordinate meeting times with each small group.

The Summer Alumni Connections Program is open to continuing undergraduate students returning in the fall semester of 2024. Please only consider signing up for a slot if you are committed to attend the weekly meetings.
