NEW FACULTY INTRODUCTIONS

Each year, new faculty members are introduced to the community in several ways:

- To their faculty colleagues at the first faculty meeting on Tuesday, September 8th, at 5:00pm in Salomon Hall 101. Please save the date and plan to attend if you can!

- To the broader Brown community in a campus news story (see the 2025 story here)

- To the scholarly community via their Researchers@Brown profile on Vivo

To make these introductions happen successfully, we will need three things from you: a photo, your name pronunciation, and a completed Vivo profile. This email contains information on how to submit or complete these items, so I hope you will excuse its length in its attempt to be comprehensive!

Photos

The university has booked a photographer to take headshot photos of new faculty. He will be on campus July 30, 31, Aug 13, and there will be a rain date of Aug 14. You may book a photo time by adding your name to this spreadsheet.

Photos will be taken in front of University Hall, on the Quiet Green (facing downtown Providence and the Van Wickle gates).

If you cannot attend one of the photo sessions, you may submit your own headshot photo using the new faculty introductions form by Tuesday, August 25th.

Name pronunciation

To ensure that your name is read correctly by your Dean at the first faculty meeting, we ask all new faculty to share the pronunciation of their preferred name. I recommend namedrop.io, which has the added benefit of creating a personalized link that can be included in email signatures and other correspondence (here is mine).

If you would prefer to submit an audio file, such as an iPhone voice memo or an Android Recorder file, you may do that as well. Please submit either your namedrop.io link or your uploaded file using the new faculty introductions form by Tuesday, August 25th.

Vivo profile

Your Vivo profile is automatically generated for you on the first day of your appointment and will be linked in the new faculty news story. Once your profile is active, but prior to the September 8th faculty meeting, please take some time to complete the following sections:

• A photo

• Overview

• Research (this might include creative or professional practice, or a summary of your area of expertise if you are in a teaching-focused position and do not presently maintain an active research agenda)

• Publications (if applicable)

• Teaching overview (if applicable)

You can find more information on how to build your profile--including adding publications by DOI or PMID--on this page. If your appointment begins after September 8th, there is no action required (though we encourage you to complete your profile once you can!).

Some information, including your name, title, and degree information, is taken directly from Workday, Brown's HR information system. Please take a moment to verify this information is correct, or let me know if there is a mistake so we can correct it in Workday.

Please note that this is a public-facing platform. If you add your CV, I recommend removing your personal information (address, personal email, cell phone, etc.).
