[presentations by the black lavender class]
Welcome!
The Black Lavender Experience (BLX) is a project of the course, Black Lavender: A Study of Plays with Black LGBTQ+ Content, which was initiated by students in my Voices Beneath the Veil course and, with the support of an Odyssey Grant from the Office of the Dean of the College, was developed along with 20 undergraduate students in the spring semester of 1998. The Black Lavender Experience was established in April 2009 as a platform for Queer Artists of Color, and has presented the works of professional and student artists.
This year, Black Lavender is highlighting the works of students in the class exclusively. They represent a rising generation that is experiencing and learning how to navigate a myriad of intersectional injustices and meanness in the country and the world under persistent stress that is fueled by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Their voices are in the living now. Their voices are authentic. Their voices deserve to be heard. Thank you for listening.
