2022-2023 Year in Review and Look Ahead

Ushering in a new board

At the beginning of 2023, a new A4 board was elected. With Vi Mai ‘17 and Mingyi Wu ‘19 at the helm, the group got together shortly after to get to know one another and exchange ideas and goals for the year.

The board meets monthly to discuss and plan upcoming events. The board has periodically invited guests such as current student leaders at Brown to share their perspective on the sentiment of AAPI students on campus and to hear what they would like to see from A4 and the broader alumni community. The board has also met with Alumni Relations staff Valerie Cordero and Silvina Hernandez Duran ’17 to get an update on the latest developments for Brown Alumni Relations and Alumni Belonging.

2023 A4 matriculation campaign

One of the biggest activities for A4 every year is to coordinate volunteers to call or email accepted students who identify as Asian, Pacific Islander, or Desi/South Asian, to congratulate them on their acceptance and encourage them to join the Class of 2027. The objective of this campaign is to supplement the matriculation activities such as A Day on College Hill (ADOCH) to encourage students to enroll at Brown. As these events have historically helped students and families weigh their various admission offers, A4 endeavors to connect with as many accepted applicants as possible and support their matriculation processes.

A4 coordinated 156 alumni volunteers to participate as panelists (on Zoom call) and to reach out to the accepted students individually. The volunteers reached out to 876 accepted students.

Thank you all who volunteered their time and effort to this cause!

A4 Commencement Weekend Celebration

Another big event for A4 was held at Commencement. On May 27, 2023,  we gathered on College Hill with our graduates, friends, family and fellow alumni for a celebration. The Brown Gendo Taiko and Brown Lion Dance provided performances, with the opening remarks delivered by A4 Board Members Hieu Nguyen '02 and Yen Tran '14.

Awards were presented to Professor Elena Shih, winner of the A4 Community Champion Award, as well as to winners of the Student A4 Community Contribution Award Jasmine Li '23 and Nelson Lin '23 (Honorable Mention).

At the end, ribbon leis were presented to the graduates. It was a joyous event with smiles on many faces! Congratulations to all 2023 Brown graduates!

In addition, A4 also supports and advocates for engagement within regional clubs and to create opportunities for fostering community, maintaining connections within the Brown community and with other alumni groups and schools. Some events that have been held so far:
