Mina Yang is an author, academic, pianist, and therapist in training. After graduating from Brown with a BA in art history, she earned a master’s degree in piano performance at the New England Conservatory and a Ph.D. in musicology from Yale and has taught at the San Francisco Conservatory, UCSD, USC, Colburn, and Minerva University. She is currently completing training in hypnotherapy to help performing artists, public speakers, and athletes to overcome performance anxiety. Much of her academic research revolved around the place of Asians and Asian Americans in music, and she looks forward to incorporating what she learned into fun and informative programming for Brown Asian alumni.

Since my graduation from Brown in 1992, I have lived in the U.S., UK and Japan. During my childhood growing up as an Indian in Japan, and later as an Indian-American in the U.S., I have the unique perspective, language and culture knowledge that makes it very fluid to build connections across many Asian communities. Additionally, in my work as an International Medical Device Regulatory Consultant, I continue to make meaningful and deep friendships with clients all over the world, primarily in Asia (current clients are located in Japan, China, India, Switzerland and Israel). I view myself as a global citizen with an Asian-American perspective and look forward to continuing to build the Alumni network of Asian and Pacific Islander-American communities by fostering connections in local and global meeting groups, gatherings, talks and conference events for the A4 Brown Alumni community from D.C., Northern Virginia across to Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong where I spend time traveling for my work. Continued communication and connections to Brown Alumni have kept me connected to Asians and Third-culture individuals like me.

I have a BA in Economics from Brown (Class of 2002) and an MBA in Finance & Marketing from Kellogg/Northwestern. I have worked in various areas of Finance & Marketing but in recent years did a major change and am pursuing a career in Ceramics Art. At Brown, I participated in various Affinity Groups and was especially involved with the Hong Kong Students Association (one year as President and another as Secretary). I am originally from Hong Kong but have moved permanently to the US post college. More recently, I co-chaired an International Parents Affinity Group for two years and am currently serving as Treasurer on the PA at my children's school. I have enjoyed connecting back to Brown via volunteerism. I look forward to participating and giving back to the A4 community that was a pivotal part of my Brown experience!
