Mr Jal opened his presentation with his inspiring and dramatic song 'We want Peace' which immediately sparked our interest. He went on to tell us his story. He was a child soldier in South Sudan and went through a traumatic and difficult time escaping from this, eventually being rescued by a British aid worker who saw him as a unique child with potential. Throughout his storytelling, he repeated many 'phrases' to help us understand our mental health: "who owns your mind?" He showed us how to have faith in ourselves, keep trying: "never give up, never give in" and follow our dreams. He reminded us that no matter how big our dreams are, they can still come true through effort and persistence. At the end, we realised how fortunate our childhood is compared to his and he gained our respect for all he's achieved despite what he's been through. Mr Jal continues his personal positive journey by sharing his story and he founded his own charity to help others not go through the same experiences.
